Comparison Between Renting a Dumpster and Hauling the Waste Yourself

Comparison Between Renting a Dumpster and Hauling the Waste Yourself

What is the need of spending hundreds of dollars on renting the dumpster while you can haul bulk of debris and goods to landfill yourself? Do you think that DIY waste removal can help you to save a lot of money? Well, let us compare the cost below to provide you with the real scenario.

Hauling of waste yourself is only effective in case of small projects. Various factors affect the hauling service. If you properly judge all the aspects, you will find that waste hauling can become expensive in some cases. Do you think there is any use of DIY waste removal when you can get the dumpster service at the same cost or even lesser than that?

You need to consider the following points when hauling the waste yourself

  • The distance of the nearest landfill as well as the transfer facility which accept the kind of waste you are planning to haul?
  • Additional work that is required for hauling the debris or waste yourself
  • The time required for hauling the waste
  • Is the truck you are planning to book enough to handle a load of waste you are planning to transport? Do you need multiple trips to complete the process of clean up?
  • Do you have enough knowledge about waste transport as well as the disposal laws prevailing in your state or city?

All these points should be considered when you are comparing the cost of hauling the waste yourself Vs. renting a dumpster. But it is important to remember that all the factors stated above are quite variable and they depend on the residential area of an individual along with the facilities available near him.

Comparing the cost

Cost factor

Renting a dumpster

Hauling debris and waste yourself

Fuel cost (Assuming the landfill to be 30 miles from your location)

$ 0

$ 30 (@ .50 per mile)

Uploading and transporting time

$ 100 with the assumption that your time value is $50 per hour

Overage fees

$ 30 (2 trips – per trailer load – 5 to 10 cubic yards)

Dump fees

$ 0

$51 per ton

Late Fees

$ 15 per day

$ 0

Equipment/Truck wear and tear

Yes

Grand Total

$ 375

$ 211

The table given above shows that it is cost-effective haul the waste to landfill yourself in case of smaller projects that generate below 20 yards of waste. But it is important to remember that it may not probably be the case in all the scenarios.

For instance, if the value of your time is around $50 per hour, certainly, the opportunity cost will rise. Alternatively, the fuel cost, dump fees etc. may be quiet high in your area.

Again, the ‘hassle’ factor involved is completely unavoidable when you are planning for the DIY waste transport to a landfill. Now, won’t you prefer to rent a dumpster for less hassle-free service?

What do you think? Definitely, you should think about all these before actually planning for the self-waste removal process. For more information, visit https://austin.bintheredumpthatusa.com/home.

Energy and time

While handling the entire waste hauling service yourself, a good amount of energy and time are required to load the truck with waste safely and properly as well as drive the same to the dump site, unload it, pay the charges and then again drive back. And all these comprise of just one single trip. Can you imagine how difficult it will be if you have to do this repeatedly to clear all the debris and waste you accumulate? For large projects, it is quite possible that you need 2 - 3 trips or even more to landfill.

Rent a dumpster – Just sit back and relax

On the other hand, if you rent a dumpster, there is no need for you to do anything. You can just book the service and set back to relax. There will be professionals who will take care of the waste accumulated - starting from fixing the empty dumpster at your location to cleaning up the same. You will not require doing anything in comparison to all those tasks you have to accomplish for the self-waste removal process.

Now, you think which a better option is!!

Hiring a dumpster is not cost worthy - When and why?

It cannot be said that renting a dumpster is a good option because there are several scenarios where DIY waste removal makes better sense.

  • When you live in an area where there is a licensed dumpsite nearby that accepts the kind of waste you usually need to dump, suddenly there is no use of hiring the dumpster.
  • The truck or trailer you want to use can transport the waste needed to be dumped in just one trip
  • The cost of renting dumpsters in your locality is extremely high owing to the limited liability or location.

Lastly, as we all know that time is much more precious than money. Undervaluing the time is something we should not be done. If you can utilize your valuable time with something efficient and effective in life - whether it is roofing jobs, renovation, yard cleanups or anything else - it is something worth considering.

Wrapping up

While deciding on whether you should take a dumpster on rent or go for the self-waste removal process, you should consider the various other relevant factors apart from just the obvious dollar amounts. The effort and time required for hauling the waste yourself should be given major importance. In certain cases, spending a few dollars for renting a dumpster can help you to use your valuable time in something in which you specialize. So, what is the point of wasting time doing something which you can get done by experts for just a few bucks?

Vinyl siding is one of the sidings used for the roof. In case of vinyl siding, dents, holes, and cracks are common. To repair the minor holes instantly you can use the vinyl caulk. If you are having larger damage, then you can easily remove a segment or replace it with a new patch. If your entire vinyl panel is damaged, then you have to remove it completed and place a new one. If you are looking to get siding services, then you should get Cape Cod house siding installed from the experienced companies.

 To help you out in repairing the vinyl siding following are the three methods that will be helpful:

1-Fixing Minor Damages on Vinyl Siding with Caulk

 To fix the small damages on your vinyl siding you can use the caulk. You need to do the following things:

  • You need to buy a suitable caulk from hardware stores to fill the small cracks and nail holes. You will get a variety of colors that you can match with a tint of your house siding. If you did not get it tinted once, then you can use vinyl caulk that can be painted later.
  • Fill the imperfection using the caulk. For this, you need to insert it in the caulk gun and cut the tip. You need to insert the tip in the crack or hole you are going to fill. Remember one thing you need to put the caulk gun in holes as deep as possible.
  • After applying the caulk, you need to wait for several days or as recommended in the direction of use. Once the caulk gets harder now, you have to cut the excess using a razor blade or a knife to give a flat surface to vinyl.
  • The unpainted caulk will be disturbing the overall look of your vinyl siding. To cover the non-tinted caulk with matching paint you need to use a small brush. Apply long strokes of paint so it can match with the surrounding paint. New coats are prominent so, it is better to paint the whole repaired segment or side.

2-Covering Holes, Crack, and Dents

For fixing these problems you need to do the below-listed things. Furthermore, you can also get in touch with vinyl siding company to get the work done.

  • You should cut more than the damaged part to get an even surface. You need to use a knife with a new blade and cut around the damage. For instance, if you can’t cut 2 inches around the affected part, then cut more.
  • To remove the damaged part of your vinyl siding you need to use a zip tool, it is also called as a siding removal tool. You should use zip tool beneath the lip of your panel. Just pull down the segment downward and slide the tool to unzip the damaged part to pull it out. If your panel is damaged near the nail strip, then first, remove the nails before removing the segment.
  • When fixing the segment, you should cut a new segment 4 inches wider as compared to the damaged segment. You should cut the overhanging vinyl. Remember that your replacement part should be of the same height similar to the removed segment but should be 2 inches wide on the sides.
  • Next, you should measure and mark the snap flange at the lower portion of a replacement panel up to the damaged segment. The snap flange connects with the panel at the lower side of replacement using your zip tool.
  • You should remove the excess flange from the panel you are going to replace.
  • You should hold a replacement panel over the hole. You should make an outline on a panel using a pencil. Apply a perimeter of vinyl caulk about 1 inch inward from the outline.
  • In the end, you should press the patch on the caulk and pull upwards to lock the lip of panels beneath it. Keep one thing in mind that some caulk brands dry faster so, you should check the directions to know about the time you should wait for letting caulk to dry.

3-Replacement of Entire Panel

 If you are going to replace the entire panel, then you need to do the following tasks. In addition, if you are looking for professionals, then you should contact house siding contractors to get satisfactory results.

  • You should get the zip tool and pry bar to start the work.
  • When removing the panel, you should start the work from the endpoint. To remove the damaged panel, you need to insert the zip tool below the vinyl until it reached to the lip. Pull downward side to unhook siding and you should slide the tool on the opposite end to carry on unzipping. You should unzip the panel to get access to the nails.
  • You need to remove the damaged panels nail using a pry bar. When you have completed the unzipping, bend it out using your elbow. Remember one thing that avoids doing vinyl siding work in the cold weather especially if it is freezing. The reason is vinyl become brittle and it will crack in low temperatures.
  • Now, it's a time to place the replacement panel using nails. You should press the new panel to lock its lower lip on the panel below it. The roofing flange will have sturdy holes and nails will connect the panel to the house.
  • In the end, you should zip all the unzipped panels using a zip tool. You should apply a medium pressure because when the tool passes, the panels will get fixed to one below it.

This was a detailed process regarding the repairing of vinyl siding. In addition, if you are looking to get services regarding vinyl siding, stucco siding, wood siding services or more, then you should get in touch with professional companies to hire the experts.

When it comes to choosing the right furniture, it is different when you're picking it for a living room where kids spend a lot of time. It automatically means your furniture needs to be endurable - there will be a lot of jumping, climbing, spilling food and drinks and doing art projects. So, the fabric of the furniture should be both practical and comfortable.

If you are aiming for durability, opt for fabrics with high rub counts or with tight weaves. The leather is another option if you are ready to spend more money - it can handle the spills, while scratches will blend in the patina in time. If you want a different kind of protection against spills, then try slipcovers - you can just peel off the cover when something gets spilled and wash it.

On the other hand, you can go for busy patterns or fabrics with various colors - both of them will disguise the stains really well.

Be smart with the storage

Kids need a lot of storage for their toys, books and art supply, you know that already.  The point is to find the right storage in the living room for all that stuff.

The best solution is to choose an enclosed storage that will allow you to hide the mess easily. You can use a credenza for this - it can have a double purpose - why not also use it as a TV stand? There are also various benches and ottomans that have interior storage. If you don't want to go that way, then simply get a couple of decorative baskets where you can quickly stash the toys. It's easier to have enclosed storage than the open one - even if it looks nice, open storage will take too much of your time.

Lighting in the living room

Lighting is used not only for spreading light but also for creating a certain mood. The living room should be the place of relaxation and fun, so your lighting needs to be adaptable to both. If you want to achieve a relaxing ambiance, go for low lighting fixtures and group them together in a couple of corners of the room. On the other hand, if you place halogen fixtures in the middle of the wall, it will create a sense of a larger, bright and inviting living room.

Table lamps are good if you want to shed light to only certain parts of the room, for example, when your kids are taking a nap on the sofa and you need the light at the table. Another great way to control the light, especially the sunlight, are popular Venetian blinds, which are also far more practical and safer than curtains when it comes to having kids in the living room.

Pieces of furniture - protection

Whatever piece of furniture you add to the living room, beside the sofa and the coffee table, such as bookcases and shelves, you need to secure them to the wall with brackets to make sure they don't fall down while your child is trying to climb them. Also, any piece of furniture with sharp corners has to be covered with bumpers, which are usually made of plastic or rubber.

Final comment

Your living room can be just as relaxing for you as it can be for your kids. With these tricks, you can make it happen.

How Many Watts per Square Foot with Led Grow Lights

How Many Watts per Square Foot with Led Grow Lights

When using LED lighting technology, growers need to calculate the amount of light they need to have in their indoor garden. The amount of light is measured in watts, which is a unit of electricity measurement for power. Using the best LED grow lights provide a very efficient grow room and a large reduction in power costs. Let’s review the wattage requirement per square foot of an indoor garden.

The Watts Requirement Plants Need

An indoor garden should have at least 20 watts of lighting per square foot of growing space. This wattage can be increased up to 50 watts per square foot of growing space.  More light means more growth, but only up to a certain point. Exceeding 50 watts of lighting per square foot of grow space will do more harm than good, so this should be considered around the upper limit.  When the light intensity becomes too strong, plants are not motivated to grow and will experience stunted growth.

When using G8LED grow lights, check the light specifications to find the ideal coverage area. The G8LED 900 Watt Veg/Flower light will cover 24 square feet, which is about 6’ X 4’. This light has an actual power draw of 540Watts, so dividing by 24 gives 22.5 Watts per square foot. Adding in two G8LED Flower Boosters brings the total wattage to 700 Watts and 29 Watts per square foot. Although this is enough light for a 6x4 grow space, you can still add more lighting into this space to get to 50 Watts per square foot.

When planning your indoor growing space, another important consideration is to focus on the photosynthetic photon flux density and the photosynthetic active radiation.

Specifications of LED Grow Lights

When you consider installing grow lights in your indoor garden, the light specifications are something you need to pay attention to. Check the wattage of the light and the power draw.  The wattage is typically in the name of the light. However, the actual power draw of the light is less. For example, the G8LED 900Watt grow light has an actual power draw of 540Watts. The reason the power draw is always less is that the LED chips are never operated at 100% capacity. This is done to avoid thermal breakdown. So even though adding up all the 3Watt LED chips can add up to 900 Watts since each chip is operated at 1.8-2.5Watts only, the total power draw will be the lower amount of 540Watts.

Understanding the Effects of Different Chip Sizes

LEDs come in different chip sizes, from 0.25 watt to 10 watts and even more. When the first LED grow lights were designed, they used very small wattage diodes such as the 0.25-watt chips. The growing strength of the grow light was low and these grow lights were not very effective.  With the LED technology advancing, larger chip sizes were available for indoor grow lights.

G8LED was among the first ones to design grow lights with 3-watt chips. Amongst all the options, the 3-watt chip is a favorable choice for indoor growers, because of the balance of light penetration into the plant canopy and the heat dissipation. As LED chips get larger in size, they have the drawback of giving off more heat, requiring larger cooling systems and being less reliable. The 3-watt chip had the ideal balance of being large enough to penetrate 5-6 feet into the canopy but being small enough to not generate excess heat as larger chip sizes do. Larger chips like the 5-10 Watt diodes are not as stable, require larger power drivers, larger heat sinks and cannot be packed into a dense network of diodes like the 3-watt chips can.

When using LED grow lights, it is always advisable to choose 3-watt chips as the best option even by experienced growers. These are suitable for those plants that grow to about six feet in height. Such lights provide the best penetration and have affordable costs.
