W3 Total Cache Plugin: Speed Up Your Website

W3 Total Cache Plugin: Speed Up Your Website

Ever been on a website that takes so long to load, you actually feel like closing it after 10 seconds? Some people might be used to slower internet connections and slower load times, but you shouldn’t rely on that. Every visitor you’ve lost this way can translate to sales losses if you run an online business, which basically means that you’re losing money and interest on your website, all because it takes too long to load. That is a problem that needs to be remedied by a cache plugin.

Now having in mind that we can’t force the user to have a faster connection, and sometimes that’s not even possible (especially if your user is in a different continent physically)  we need to figure out a way to speed up our website. We’ll be using an age-old concept in the computer world – caching.

What caching actually does, is to make sure that the user has information from the first load of the page kept into their browser, so that each time the visitor requests a page on your website, all the information that is still the same is not transferred over the network, but picked up from the browser. This has immense effects on the loading speeds, but has one single drawback – any update you’ve done to the page (e.g. if you’ve changed your site’s logo) will not immediately appear in the user’s browser, because of the fact that the user has the cached version. This, however, is a small price to pay compared to the great benefits we get from caching.

Caching also happens on the server-side, because the server has to pre-fetch any and all information before sending it to the user.  There’s also database caching, which happens when information is pulled out from the database. This too can be set and used to our advantage. These drop-down menus speed up fast data entry but also prevent typos from confusing the system and generating bugged reports.

If we don’t have much coding experience, we’ll need a tool that does it for us, namely the W3 Total Cache plugin for WordPress. The doe training courses provide a tangible learning experience for process development and manufacturing scientists, relevant to everyday work.

W3 Total Cache Plugin :

The instant after installing the W3 Cache Plugin, we need to make sure it’s being run on our website. That’s why, you ought to click on the button in General Settings that says “Deploy”, to change from preview mode to live mode, in which the plugin does its job. The actual benefits come from the particular feature settings, which are the following:

  • Minifying your website

This handy feature has nothing to do with cache but does another nifty optimization, which is why we’ll discuss it here. A lot of the website’s code uses whitespace (line feeds, tab characters, empty spaces) in order to make the code more readable.  But that extra whitespace costs us memory because the position of each whitespace is stored as a character, even though we don’t see it. Minify removes the whitespace, thus drastically reducing the website’s size and making it faster to load, so it’s safe to say it’s a good bargain if you don’t plan on reading any code on your website.

  • Browser Cache optimization :

This is what we talked about earlier – it uses the advanced capabilities of browsers to our advantage, by optimizing browser caching. You can check all of the settings, and that will likely yield a faster page load in no time. W3 Total Cache does a great job with that feature.

  • Page Cache & Database Cache :

These two cache plugin features improve the caching on the server-side by using advanced code optimizations. It’s very useful to have, and it will immensely speed up your website. The difference between Page Cache and Database Cache is in the particular thing that’s being optimized – the database or the HTTP server which does the actual communication with the client.

  • Content Delivery Network :

This feature requires the most settings, and will likely have the necessity for you to register an account at a CDN network. But what it does is actually very useful. Communication between, let’s say, Europe and Australia is still slower than Europe-Europe communication, even with the modern advancements of the internet. CDN makes sure some of your content is hosted somewhere in Australia too so that the browsers of users there fetch it faster. Again, a great feature.

If updates are necessary, you can always go and clear the caches, forcing the updates to reveal to users,  and essentially getting rid of the only drawback W3 Total Cache has.

Knowing what you know now, you can install the plugin and have a faster loading page in virtually no time. Try it for yourself, compare the load times before and after, so you can stand in awe of the way W3 Total Cache plugin does its work. Good luck with your blogging endeavors!

CPI vs. DPI

Do you like to play computer games? If yes then you must have come across the DPI and CPI. Not only gamers but every people who computer mouse know these terms. These are important parameters and are very critical while purchasing a computer mouse. A good mouse certainly enhances the gaming experience. But you may be wondering about the difference between CPI and DPI. Yes today I will clear your confusion and state the difference between CPI and DPI. Also I will clear which term we should actually use and why?

What do you mean by the term DPI?

DPI refers to Dot per Inch. It actually mean the output resolution of a printer or similar devices. This is what actually DPI means. It is actually physical dot density of an image when it is stamped on paper or intensity of the stamped image on the paper. In the present era this term is often wrongly defined. We wrongly interpret PPI instead of DPI. PPI stands for Pixels per Inch. So for example if someone says that he want to click a 500 DPI image, he actually want a 500 PPI image. But the real question is that how DPI can effect a gaming mouse?DPI is a measure of sensitivity of a mouse. By sensitivity we mean that the response shown by a mouse when we initiate unit change. How quick we can move an object in response to other’s reaction. The responsiveness of a mouse is a big factor to consider while buying a new mouse. It tells the speed of a mouse.

What do we mean by the term CPI?

The term CPI refers to Count per Inch..It is actually the number of steps the mouse will move when it moves one inch. It simply means that by how much a mouse moves in response to our unit movement. Let me tell you one thing that CPI and DPI measures the same thing- how quickly the mouse responds to any change initiated by us. So here we understand that CPI though is different from DPI means same here.A mouse with CPI settings 800 allows you to move the pointer through 800 pixels on the screen. Majority of gamers will prefer CPI of 3000 settings.

How to distinguish between CPI and DPI?

Well, it is clear to us that what is actually meant by CPI and DPI. But you may be confused about the difference between them. Today I will clear this doubt. CPI or DPI – they say the same thing about a mouse. CPI is the accurate thing but DPI is more extensively used today. Sometimes DPI also suggest picture or video quality.  But this is actually Pixels per Inch (PPI). A graphic designer uses the DPI to determine quality of images but in reality they are talking about PPI. A graphic stalwart utilize DPI to determine the quality of images but in reality they are using PPI. Most of the common people are using the term DPI. Even companies are using it- they are doing that to ensure common people better understands it.Any Gamer are well known to the name of DPI switch, but in reality it is actually CPI switch. But some companies use the term CPI correctly. Eventually, what companies point to as DPI is the same as CPI concept. DPI or CPI –it does not change anything, any functionality of the mouse. Only the name changes!

Does it change anything?

You know what CPI is and what is DPI. Now you know clearly the difference between them and you clearly know that CPI is the correct term. But does make any difference? My answer is no. There is no change in the configuration of the mouse, then there shouldn’t be any problem. DPI is more used by the consumers, so companies use them. At the end of the day, we are changing only a mouse’s sensitivity and precisions, regardless of what the company calls it. The consumers are least bothered if receive the same service from the mouse.

In the world of computing CPI/ DPI resemble the same thing. At the end of the day it is about the mouse’s sensitivity. Nothing in real is changing. So why you are bothered?

4 Easy Way to Make Money from WhiteBoard Videos

You may remember an earlier post where I shared and discussed how to create animated whiteboard videos. I now want to share 4 easy ways to make money from whiteboard videos. These videos take only a few minutes to create and no artistic or technical knowledge is required, as thankfully, the awesome software that I shared with you in the post linked above makes it as easy as 1-2-3.

1. MARKET YOUR OWN PRODUCT
If you have your own product or service where you already offer video as a form of advertisement or tool to help people understand your business, then using the software yourself will be hugely advantageous. In this post, I show you an example of how I created a short hand drawn animated video which showcased my product, and subsequently skyrocketed sales by 27%. This simply cannot be ignored. And the best thing was, it only took me around 15 minutes to create that video. The software even allows you to add your own voice or a professional voiceover to enhance the user experience, and really push home the benefits of your product or service.

2. OFFER SERVICES ON FIVERR
Fiverr.com is big business nowadays, with vendors charging five bucks for a variety of different services. Why not create a (free) advert stating that you will create a hand drawn animated whiteboard video on any subject that a customer may want? Try thinking out of the box a little here, and you could be quids in. Remember, with this software, you can even import pictures and the hand will draw it (that is how clever the software actually is). So why not offer services like

“I will create an animated hand drawn whiteboard Christmas message for a loved one for $5”, or,

“I will create an animated, hand drawn birthday message with pictures for a friend for $5”, or

“I will create a one minute hand drawn whiteboard video with pictures advertising your product for $5”

There are literally hundreds of possibilities with this software. Stamp on that box and think outside of it. And lets face it, the work you will need to do here is minimal. Get your customer to supply you with any images they want, the words they want written on the screen, and then simply upload to YouTube. With YouTube, you could even create them a personal account, and make the video private, so only the recipient will be able to see it!

3. SELL DIRECTLY TO BUSINESSES
Offline marketing is a huge business. Imagine going to your local florist, and telling them you can create them a 2 minute animated whiteboard video for their website or blog. And imagine charging them $50 to do it. Yes, it really is that simple, and it is so much better to actually go and visit these types of small businesses in person rather than cold calling them.

When my parents owned a hotel here in the UK a few years ago, I remember a knock on the door. It was mid morning, and a guy in a suit presented himself at the door. He wanted 5 minutes of my father’s time to show him how a web presence would be desirable to the hotel business. The guy spent 15 minutes with my dad, with a really well rehearsed sales technique. He backed it all up by also showing my father various presentations and demonstrations on his laptop. 30 minutes later, the guy walked out of the hotel with a check for £150 ($152). Very, very clever.

4. OFFER ON FREELANCE SITES
Freelance sites are an excellent avenue to drum up business. These clients will expect a little more than the clients from Fiverr or similar sites, because generally these clients are prepared to pay more! So a little more effort is required. One of the best freelance sites is without doubt Elance.com. I have used this site extensively as both a job seeker offering services, as well as a customer looking for services.

So why not take some positive action today? Go and check out the free trial of the whiteboard software, have a play around with it and let your creative juices run wild, Also read our guide on good tumblr blog names.
